The Department of Agriculture opened four big-ticket agricultural infrastructure projects worth P81.2 million in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, recently, including what could be the country’s first rice mill with parboiling facility.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala inaugurated the P32.2-million rice-processing center (RPC) in Ambalgan, Sto. Niño, South Cotabato on January 17, 2014 as part of the government’s commitment to provide high quality rice to the Filipino people.

Several hours before Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines on Nov. 7, DigitalGlobe activated FirstLook, an online service that provides satellite imagery of large scale disasters. Their satellites collected more than 7,300 square miles of imagery in the areas hardest hit by the typhoon — one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall.
